MARGARET J. KOTASKA, age 89, of Grand Rapids, MN died Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital.
Margaret was born in 1923 to Peter and Cecelia (Pesek) Bina in Whitman, North Dakota. She went to country grade school for 8 years, graduated from Whitman High School in 1942 and then attended Aaker Business College in Grand Forks, ND for one year. Margaret worked at the Triple A office as a bookkeeper in Park River, ND. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Kotaska on June 22, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Park River, ND. They moved to Pengilly, MN in fall of 1952, and to Grand Rapids, MN on April 11, 1992. Margaret belonged to St. Kevin’s Church in Pengilly, MN and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MN. She was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary #2469, YMCA, and the Bruce Bower Senior Center. Margaret did a lot of volunteer work and played in the Looney Tune Band each month at all the nursing homes. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; one sister, Edythe Telander; grandson, Adam Kotaska; nephew, Wayne Brett; niece, Darlene Rolf; and two brothers-in-law, Russell Telander and Johnnie McFadyen; two sisters-in-law, Carrie Bina and Helen Bina.
Margaret is survived by her children, Robert (Fran) Kotaska of Detroit Lakes, MN, David Kotaska of Braham, MN, Rita (Jerome) Nelson of Big Lake, MN, and Janice Hill of Shingletown, CA; eleven grandchildren, Chad, Kevin and Brian Nelson, Jon, Scott and Lee Kotaska, Maria, Mary Jo and Eric Kotaska, Isaac Hill and Jolene Sanchez; seventeen great-grandchildren, Andrew, Nathan, Alexandra, Grant, Nicholas, Kyle, Orlantho Jr., Neariah, Othniel, Tessa, Adrian, Abigail, Ellie Mae, Alan Jay, Norah, Nolan and Adam; four brothers, Stanley (Alice) Bina of Casper, WY, Peter (Hope) Bina of Vancouver, WA, Theodore Bina of Meeker, CO, and Latimer Bina of Oconto, WI; two sisters, Henrietta (Douglas) Brett of Spokane, WA, and Betty Ann McFadyen of Wilmington, NC; sister-in-law, Mamie (Art) Howe of McVille, ND; also Margaret was the adopted grandmother to Ray and Maryann Barta’s four children and nine grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 23rd from 3 PM until 5 PM at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, MN and will continue on Monday, September 24th at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MN from 9:30 AM until the 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Fr. Drew Braun will officiate. Burial will be in Itasca-Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN.
